1) elements in the same group exhibit similar chemical properties but not physical properties. Consider the elements in group VII(halogens), they all react with sodium by gaining one electron per atom to give sodium halides (i.e. similar chemical reactions/chemical properties) Cl2 + 2Na ® 2Na+Cl- Br2 + 2Na ® 2Na+Br- I2 + 2Na ® 2Na+I- However, they are in different physical states at room temperature and pressure. Cl2 is a gas Br2 is a liquid I2 is a solid |

2) It is a moderate reaction (Not too fast nor slow) 3) Yes. But note that soapy detergent or soap is alkaline. |
