from the book "lithium chloride is the only deliquescent chloride and is hydrated, whereas other group I chlorids are anhydrous" i hv looked up the dict. , seems that the word"deliquescent" is similar to "melt", but it the reason for "hydrated" is that LiCl is deliquescent??? why other group I chlorides can not be deliquescent or why it is anhydrous 唔知urgent有幾快呢??

Deliquescence (noun) means a process in which a solid absorbs moisture in the air to such an extent that it eventually dissolves in it to give an aqueous solution. Deliquescent substances (潮解性物質) are substances that undergo deliquescence easily. Lithium ion has a very high charge to size ratio. Thus, it has high affinity to polar water molecules and is thus deliquescent. |
